THE TAMING OF THE TONGUES (Part One)

Scripture reminds us we serve a God who will hold human beings accountable for “every idle word” that comes out of their mouths (Matt.12:36-37) Sinners struggle to control the words that come out of their mouths, because the origin of ungodly language is the human heart. (James 3:1-12) (Matthew 12:34-40) In spite of these cautions, many people are careless with their words. Many are convinced that it Is not important to know what we are saying when we pray to the Lord in tongues. They believe that praying in tongues is a special “prayer language” that is understood by the Lord, Holy Spirit led, and they cannot control when it happens. Those who believe they should pray in tongues defend their position with 1st Corinthians 14. However, those who believe that praying in tongues should never happen, also look to 1st Corinthians 14! Who is right?

1st Corinthians 14:1-19

There are _650___ prayers recorded in the bible, and _25__ of those were prayed by Jesus. __0___ were prayed in tongues, and if they were, we would not have learned how to pray. Let your intellect and emotions align with scripture as your speak to the God who hears and answers prayer.
